In 2004, I became the editor of Spokane Coeur d’Alene Living, the city lifestyle magazine for Spokane and the surrounding areas. Having spent most of my life in Spokane, I thought I knew a lot about this great city, but it wasn’t until I began researching our city’s history, that my eyes were opened to the incredible treasure we have in our community. Researching for work, I would get lost in the stories, newspaper clippings and accounts of Spokane’s earliest days. My love of reading combined with a newfound interest in the history of our community led to the vision for this book: A compilation of my work, some of it previously published, some of it new, and a chance to dive deeper into well-known topics, and get lost in the details. Though there are so many stories to share, for this volume, I’ve selected 28 of the most impactful people, places and events that helped shape Spokane into the city it is today.
